Pooja Room can be placed in the building as per horoscope. All family
members horoscope should be considered while making Pooja Room. As per
Vastu the North-East direction lord is Jupiter and is the preferred
location for the room. The room placed between North or East will
also give good results as Pooja Room towards North will bring the
blessing of Kuber the god of finance and prosperity, it should be only
in the positive zone where as placing the room towards East will
bring the name and fame.
Here, are some specific guidelines of Vastu that should be followed
while building/ placing Pooja Room in your home.
Design and Measurement as per Vastu Art:
- The height of the idols in the Worship room should not be more
than 9 inches and less than 1 inch.
- The wall colours of Pooja Room should be yellow and whitegolden
- Don't use the worship space for any other purpose and avoid
unnecessary storage, if you have storage options then place
cupboards to the west or south wall as per Vastu Art.
- The worship room door should have curtains or two doors which
should preferably be made of wood.
- The Worship room must have low ceiling as compared to the rest
of the house.
- Make use of utensils made of copper or silver as they are
considered highly auspicious radiating positive energies.
- In the temple, the empty space along both sides of deities must be
equal in measure as per Vastu Art
- The height of the deity must be atleast 18 inches from the floor level.
- There must be adequate ventilation in the temple.
- Do not place any dome/shikhar above the temple.
- Nothing should be stored above the temple.
- The room size of the temple should consists of odd measure of
dimension, for example: 5x7, 7x7, 7x9 etc as per Vastu Art.
- Make sure that there are no edges in front of the temple door as per
Vaastuart .
Temple in Small House or Flats as per Vastu Art:
For flat owners, it’s not always feasible to arrange for prayer space in the
house, so, for them, a whole different set of Vastu rules comes into place as per
Vastu Art :
- If you wish to place the Worship Room in the kitchen or the living room,
always make sure it is in the north-east direction.
- Though making room for a worship room in the bedroom is not
recommended, however, if it is the only option then, make sure to place
it in the north-east direction ensuring that it is fully covered.
- Ensure not placing your feet in the same direction as that of the idols.
Placement and Direction as per Vastu Art:
- While worshipping, one should face towards East/North.
- The Agni Kund (hawan) should be in the South East direction.
- Don't position the Place of worship under a staircase or against the wall
of a washroom.
- The worship room door should not have any climbing stairs or
washroom door neither in front of it nor above or beneath it as per
Vastu Art .

- Basements are not recommended for place of worship.
- The portrait or Idol of Lord Ganesha can face all four directions.
- The favorable direction for Lord Ram/Lord Krishna's idol should be east
/west facing.
- Although Lord Hanuman's Idol can face all 8 directions but south
direction is most favorable to ensure prosperity and good health as per
Vastu Art.
- Devi Kaali's idol should be placed facing south to gain recognition
and standing in the society
- Shivlinga jalhari should always face towards north.
- The deity must not be placed on the window's rear side.
- The ghee deepak should be placed on the right side while oil
deepak must be placed on the left side of the deities.
- Worship Room should not be placed in the bedroom
While Building Pooja Room What You Must Avoid:
There are some specific things that should be strictly avoided while building
Pooja Room.

While doing Pooja, avoid facing in the south direction.
- Do not build your Pooja place in a store-room.
- Do not make your Pooja place in any bedroom. If there is no option left,
then utilize the north-east corner of the bedroom as Worship Place (but
always remember this is the last as well as a least favorable option).
Also, remember that your feet should not be directed towards this
corner while sleeping or lying on the bed.
- Do not place Pooja room in first/ above floors/ basement.
- Do not make Pooja Place below, above, or next to any kitchen or toilet.
- Do not place your Pooja room under a staircase.
- Idols should not face in the south.
- Avoid chiseling off the wall to arrange the place for keeping idols.
- Avoid keeping broken the idols in your Pooja Room.
- Idols should not directly place in front of the main door of the Pooja
Room.
- Do not place idols in your Pooja Room, which are brought from old
temples.
- Do not put any scenes/photos of crime, battles or of any negative
emotions are in the Pooja Room. Actually, you should avoid them in
your entire house.
- Do not keep photos of birds and animals in the Pooja Room.
- You can place pitras photos on south wall in the Pooja Room. Make sure
the passed-away people photos should be placed lower/under than
main deity idol or photo.
- • Avoid keeping a dustbin in the Pooja Room because it decreases the
positive energy of the room.
- Avoid sleeping in the Pooja Room (except if the Pooja Room is in the
bedroom).
- Under any circumstance, never ever hide any money or other valuables
in Pooja Room.
